Abstract
Polydactyly is a condition characterized by the presence of extra fingers on the limbs. This paper describes a case of polydactyly in a pig. Through observation, physical examination, and palpation of the additional digits on the forelimb, it was determined that this was polydactyly. The additional digits were fully formed and had a solid, flexible consistency upon palpation. From a dorsal view, five digits with five nails were observed, and from a plantar view, four digits with their respective nails were visualized. The importance of studying malformations in pigs is emphasized in order to improve understanding and develop management and prevention strategies that benefit both the animals and the swine industry as a whole.
