Abstract
The geomorphological evolution of a Quaternary volcanic cone can be shown through a tomomorphometric analysis. The pattern recognition parameters that characterise the successive horizontal cross-sections emphasise two superimposed ensembles that are in accordance with the respective influence of the two fitted cones that compose the Misti stratovolcano. The older part of this structure was affected by a collapse of its southeastern flank, where the new cone was later emplaced. The influence of the more recent parts of the volcano and the contribution of the related volcanic materials appear mainly at the summit.
