Abstract
The sustainability of the avocado producing farms in the Moquegua region was determined. The population consisted of 428 producers from where a sample was taken (n=92). The Sarandón methodology was followed, which consisted of preparing indicators and sub-indicators of the economic, social and environmental dimensions appropriate to the conditions under study, to then be processed according to the sustainability formulas of each dimension. The results indicate that the social objectives (2.67) were met to a greater degree than the environmental (2.58), or the economic (1.89). In the social aspect, basic services and access to education were more sustainable, and as critical to social integration, technological knowledge and ecological awareness; in environmental terms, the presence of barriers and diversification of production stood out, the percentage of plant cover and conservation areas were critical; and economically they highlighted the diversification for sale and marketing channels, and as critical the low yields, the high incidence of diseases, high dependence on external inputs and low monthly income. Likewise, it was determined that 27% of avocado farms are sustainable (> 2) and the general sustainability index was 2.05.
