The results of direct consultations about the landing volumes of artisanal fishery is analyzed in Salaverry Port, befare, during and after "El Niño 1997-98" phenomenon. The landings during the first phase 01 "El Niño" were aboul of 1 000 1m in 1996 and il increased to 17000 1m in 1997. The presence of tropical water species with "El Niño" event intensification Ihe first semester of 1998 was increased in lishery and more than 50% 01 landings corresponded lo dolphinlish. Later on, the use landing volumes 01 traditional species returned with normalizatíon 01 environmenlal conditions. The socioeconomic impact is also analyzed.
