Abstract
This work compares two feedback control systems to levitate a magnetic disc in a desired position. The first control system uses a PD (Proportional Derivative) controller, while the second control system employs a PID (Proportional Integral Derivative) controller. A Maglev (Magnetic Levitation) apparatus is used to test the PD and PID control systems experimentally. Simulation studies and experimental results will demonstrate that the PID control system improves the design specifications of the PD control system by reducing the steady-state error and the settling time.
