Abstract
This paper presents the results of a geotechnical investigation performed at a site where large structural damage occurred as a result of surface subsidence. The site is located at a mining area in the peruvian andes. The exploration program included detailed geological mapping, and rotary diamond drilling with core recovery. In addition, core samples were tested in the laboratory. A probable failure mechanism was developed, a subsidence control program was implemented, and satisfactory results were obtained.
