Abstract
New citrus cultivars in Andalusia need to be evaluated in experimental fields under local conditions before been planted on a large scale as there is not a citrus breeding programme in this region of Spain, and therefore most new plant material is brought either from other countries or other parts of Spain, with different climate and soil conditions. This experiment has been carried out to evaluate the horticultural performance of two early ripening satsuma cultivars, 'Okitsu' and 'Iwasaki', during the 2010 season. The study was focused on both yield and fruit quality components: size, weight, shape and external fruit color, juice content, total soluble solids concentration, total acids concentration and soluble solids/acid ratio. The results showed significant differences between 'Iwasaki' and 'Okitsu'. Regarding fruit ripening, 'Iwasaki' was about two weeks earlier and also had higher fruit size, rind thickness and external color.
