Abstract
This paper explains what the El Nino Southern Oscillation (ENSO) is and how it affects the environment and economic activities. A brief description of the huge cholera outbreak that swept Peru and other countries in the region in 1991 and the following years is presented. The possible link between these two events is thoroughly discussed. © 2008, Inderscience Publishers.
