Abstract
In this work, a novel Balanced Antipodal Vivaldi Antenna (BAVA) with 3 Elliptical Slots at the Edges (ESE) is proposed for application in a Dual Polarization Ground Penetrating Radar (DP-GPR). The several antenna parameters were optimized such as; bandwidth which was increased by lowering the Lower Cutoff Frequency (LCF) to 0.379 GHz; Cross-Polarization (CP) was reduced to less than-160 dB and the realized gain was increased by 224.9% at low frequencies and by 49% at mid frequencies. The antenna was designed and simulated on FR4 in a commercial electromagnetic field simulator.
