The purpose of this work is to demonstrate in the "Epístola de Amarilis a Belardo" (Epistle of Amarilis to Belardo), in counterpoint, the discursive expressions that reveal the ambiguity of the so called « Creole subject». On the one hand, the identification of Amarilis with the Spanish Empire is proved and, on the other hand, she prides herself of her homeland and of the American legacy.
