Laquipampa was first designated a Reserved Zone, a temporary protected area category used by the Peruvian government until more complete studies permit a final designation, in 1982. The initial designation was based on the presence of the endemic and globally threatened White-winged Guan Penelope albipennis, but few other data on its other avifauna were available. We present the first comprehensive bird list (187 species) for this important reserve based on observations in 2001-10 and provide comments on several noteworthy records.
