Abstract
The study of the teaching profile of the general studies teaching staff is essential to define its contribution to the comprehensive training of the student body. In this intention, it was investigated about the characteristics that contribute to recognizing their self-perceptions about the teaching profile. For which, a questionnaire was developed, validated and applied to 97 teachers who work in different areas of knowledge of a public university in Peru. The results show distinctive features of the general studies teaching staff with respect to the entire university teaching staff. They are younger and with higher degrees and, paradoxically, they are in a greater job insecurity. His considerations towards the dimensions that make up the teaching profile are self-perceived with different emphases, highlightingthe personal and participatory over the pedagogical and cognitive, an imbalance generated by the primacy of his own references, and indicator of progression towards the normative and institutionally established ideals.
