Abstract
In the context of the bicentennial commemorations in Latin America, the celebration of the anniversary of the Cuzco Revolution represents an important occasion for the analysis of social movements from a regional perspective. In this sense, this research develops an approach to the images of the Cusco Revolution in the revolutionary press of Buenos Aires and its responses and exchanges in the realistic press of Lima and Santiago de Chile. It studies the speeches that the revolutionaries from Rio de la Plata forged and the propaganda support provided through the press to obtain the support of the Buenos Aires population, of the local authorities adjacent to the theater of military operations and in the political support of the Cusco rebels to consolidate and propagate the revolution in the Andes and undermine the realistic counterpropaganda. This propaganda and counter-propaganda war between Cusco, Buenos Aires, Lima, and Santiago de Chile generated intense polarization, antagonism, and struggles for the construction of political legitimacy.
