Abstract
In this chapter, we aim to discuss recycling technologies, systems and policies associated with the Japan's policy direction to build a "sound material-cycle society." After reviewing historical trends of waste management and recycling systems in Japan, we summarize essential policies and legislations related to promoting a sound materialcycle society and Japan's strategies which aim to enhance recycling and resourcecirculation practices. Such stra1tegies we argue in this chapter include the strategic action plans, macro indicators with which to evaluate the progresses of promoting a sound material-cycle society, integrative product and process policies and eco-town initiatives. We then delve into a specific case of recycling systems and technology options by looking into the example of containers and packages wastes. In particular, we highlight feedstock recycling technologies associated with the containers and packages wastes. © 2011 by Nova Science Publishers, Inc. All rights reserved.
