Abstract
Acting ethically requires the student not only to gain knowledge of it, but to gain ethical skills that allow him or her to make responsible decisions when practicing the profession. The training of new professionals in Systems Engineering that society demands, must be strengthened at the level of knowledge and tools, as well as at the level of ethical competences, which it currently suffers from. This research sought to determine the level of ethical competence in the training of professionals in Systems Engineering; was non-experimental, descriptive post facto and longitudinal design. The data collected in the records of the last six academic periods where the competency assessment was carried out were worked on. The evaluation instrument consists of ten case studies in the profession of systems engineer, drafted and validated by the teachers of the program. Each case concludes as a dichotomical variable (Ethical/Unethical), considering ethical capabilities: professional secrecy, loyalty, general interest in particular, quality, adequate use of resources, use of true information, responsibility, caution, justice and honesty. This instrument was an adaptation of the Cisco Academy Ethics Questionnaire. A pilot study was carried out where the statistic KR-20-0.802 was obtained, demonstrating good consistency. The results show that the improvement plan established by the program responds to the Engineer's code of ethics and the code of ethics of international associations. It is clear that students' ethical levels are high from the beginning of the career, but it is important to note that students bring preconceived many ethical and unethical behaviors that must be discerned through vocational training.
