Abstract
This work explain a method of fault location in time and space domain for long transmission considering distributed parameters in the line model, also the method is based on Telegrapher's equations and its solution by the method of characteristics. The development of the method considers transmission lines with two terminals and the inclusion of GPS for synchronized measurements of voltage and current values in both ends, thereby showing the improvement in accuracy and speed compared to traditional methods. To verify the method, it was simulated with different faults in different locations overcoming in that way the limitations of traditional algorithms developed so far.
