Abstract
The reintegration of convicts requires their social acceptance, edentulism is a factor against such reintegration. In this sense, the objective of this research was to analyze the social perception for the reintegration of those deprived of liberty in Peru, against the effect that edentulism causes in the Huancas penitentiary, in the Amazon, Peru. A quantitative investigation was carried out through a descriptive, crosssectional and observational study, using odontograms to determine the Kennedy classification of convicts; Furthermore, the data obtained was analyzed using descriptive statistics. The results show that the entire convicted population is edentulous with more than 90%, showing loss of anterior teeth (73.5%), showing that Kennedy class IV is the predominant one, and it was also found that the lack of programs Oral rehabilitation in the Peruvian health system, contributes to dental loss and to developing an unattractive face. In conclusion, it is observed that edentulism is a widespread misfortune in the prison population, and as such a situation influences social reintegration, rehabilitation programs must be implemented to avoid corrective recidivism, since attractive facial appearance is a key element in achieving social acceptance.
