Abstract
In this paper, we investigate the impact of different system parameters, such as, traffic smoothing, buffer dimensioning and synchronization mechanisms on the performance of an ATM multiplexer supporting VBR MPEG-2 video sources. The effect of these system parameters is evaluated in terms of the statistical multiplexing gain and QoS guarantees provided to the video application.
