Abstract
The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of the inclusion of Theobroma grandiflorum seed flower (HSC), in the balanced diet, on the growth indicators of Piaractus brachypomus Cuvier juveniles (Pacu). The Pacu juveniles were fed with three extruded diets, at a 25% protein level, with the inclusion of different concentrations of HSC (5, 10 and 15%) and a control diet (with no HSC), during ninety days. The experiment population was 180 Pacu juveniles, which were distributed in four experimental units of 60 m2 with a density of 0.75 fish/m2, and an average initial length and weight of 21.33 cm and 182.92 g, respectively. The food was given two times a day (8:00 and 15:00 h), with an in initial feed rate of 5% of the biomass and a final rate of 1.5%. Every fifteen days biometric evaluations of fifteen fish per treatment were done to measure the growth in length and weight. The results of these measurements allowed for adjustments in the feed rations to be administered for the following fifteen days. The quality of the water was monitored every fifteen days; determining temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen and conductivity. The results show that the growth indicators evaluated presented no significant difference (p>0.05) between the treatments. The treatment with 5% inclusion of HSC showed the best growth indicators with a weight gain (GP) of 644.44 ± 115.49 g, daily weight gain (GPD) of 7.16 ± 1.28 g/day, total length (LT) of 33.60 ± 1.26 cm, feed conversion index (ICA) of 1.27 ± 0.24 and specific growth rate (TCE) of 1.65 ± 0.16% per day, with a 100% survival rate. In conclusion, the HSC can be used as an alternative ingredient for the making of balanced diets for juvenile Pacu.
