Abstract
The aim of the study was to identify the presence of antibodies in Guinea pigs (Cavia porcellu) against serovars of L. Icterohaemorrhagiae, L. Bratislava, L. Pomona, L. Hardjo, and L. Canicola. A total of 155 samples were obtained from Guinea pigs in five different locations in Lima. The samples were taken to the laboratory of microbiology and they were centrifuged at 2500 rpm during 5 minutes with the goal to obtain the blood serum necessary to perform the micro agglutination test (MAT). 31.61% (49/155) of seropositive animals were identified, antibody titres of 1: 100 and 1: 200 were detected; with a frequency of 20.65% (32/155) against serovar L. Ichterohaemorragiae, 7.09% (11/155) against L. Pomona, 5.16% (8/155) against L. Canicola and 1.29% (2/155) against L. Hardjo. A significant statistical association (p <0.05) was found between the variables of test positivity versus sex and sampling site, using the Chi square test (X2).
