Abstract
The biometrics parameters description of the genetic resources is essential for the development of conservation programs. This work was carried out with the aim of establishing the morphological pattern of the Cuban Creole ass, in the eastern region of Cuba. 331 donkeys between 3-10 years, of which 241 females were studied. 23 body measurements were monitored in the cephalic, trunk and extremities region, using standard measuring stick and a non elastic measuring tape, from which 11 indexes were calculated. An analysis of variance (ANOVA) of simple classification was carried out in a completely randomized design. A marked sexual dimorphism was appreciated favorable to stallions, with significant differences (P <0,001) for 11 of the 14 variables evaluated, especially the height to the withers (106, 61 to 110, 62), back (from 105, 66 to 108, 75), rump (106, 08 to 109, 33), pelvis (107, 66 to 111, 04) and the birth of the tail (103, 91 to 105, 14 cm). Females were statistically higher in the posterior rump width (P<0,001). The largest number of high and significant correlations were verified between the variables of the heights (P<0,001). Under the indexes evaluated, the Cuban ass, classified as dolichocephalic, longilíneos, elipométricos, convex rump and good aptitude for the work.
