Abstract
Objectives: To determine the association between family function and academic achievement of students of obstetrics of public university of Peru. People, material and methods: Cross-sectional study on 244 obstetricians students, of first to fourth year of San Marcos University in Lima, Peru. Were applied structured questionnaires about family functioning and collating academic performance. We applied descriptive statistics, ?2 and logistic regression significant p <0.05. Results: 63.5% were between 20 to 23 years, 91% were women, 29.5% had good family function, 43.9% mild family dysfunction, 20.1% moderate, and severe 6.6% (p= 0.923). 1.6% had poor academic performance; regular 87.3% and good 11.1% (p= 0.002). Being in fourth year (aOR= 6.6; CI95%: 2.8-15.5) and have good family function (aOR= 3.2; CI95%: 1.3-7.5) it was associated with good academic performance. Conclusions: Most had mild family dysfunction, and regular academic performance. Being in fourth year of study and have good family function, was associated with good academic performance.
