Abstract
The chronic myeloid leukemia is a chronic myeloproliferative syndrome whose symptoms tend to affect the quality of life of the patients. OBJECTIVE: We evaluated in these works the quality of life of patients with who were receiving treatment of chemotherapy, who were treated at the National Hospital Almanzor Aguinaga Asenjo and in the Regional Hospital Las Mercedes of Chiclayo, between the months January 2007 to December 2012. METHODS: Our study was a descriptive type of cases series. We selected all patients aged 18 years diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukemia in chronic phase who were receiving chemotherapy treatment. We reviewed the medical records of the patients, and we made home visits to patients who met the selection criteria, in order to applying the instrument developed by the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer. The obtained data were classified on high quality of life (if this obtained percentage was over 65 %) and low (if the percentage obtained was less than or equal to 65 %). RESULTS: The study presented included and evaluated 32 patients with diagnostic of chronic myeloid leukemia in chemotherapy treatment, of which 60 % had a poor quality of life compared to the overall health as well as, in regard to the functional ( the emotional subscale) and the symptomatic scales. CONCLUSIONS: The results showed that patients with chronic myeloid leukemia in chemotherapy treatment had a bad quality of life.
