Abstract
The site Los Gavilanes of the north-central Peruvian coast has been known since 1957, but no systematic investigation was made until 1976. The site became famous due to the discovery of early maize, but the structures which it contained had not been studied nor analyzed in detail. Recent investigations prove that they were built to store maize. 47 of them were excavated, revealing a system enabling the conservation of huge quantities of this plant. - English summary
