The 32 papers in this volume (25 abstracted separately) are based on the workshop contributions, and are published together with an introduction in Spanish which gives a summary and conclusions, emphasizing the information pertaining to long time series and consistent data collection and to the key elements of a future model of the ecosystem for use in fishery management. There are also appendices on available data diskettes on this ecosystem and on publications of the Programa Cooperativo Peruano-Aleman de Investigacion Pesquara, plus author, geographic and species indexes. Papers are organized into sections on: oceanography, primary production and zooplankton off Peru; food and feeding habits of the Peruvian anchoveta; reproduction of the Peruvian anchoveta; other studies on the Peruvian anchoveta; ecology, dynamics and anchoveta consumption of Peruvian hake; ecology and exploitation of large vertebrates off Peru; and a synthesis "towards management of the Peruvian upwelling ecosystem'. -J.W.Cooper
