Abstract
The high-power, high-resolution VHF-radar promises the observation of the development of turbulence in tropo-, strato- and mesospheric heights. Besides the investigations of turbulence, the profile of the eddy diffusion coefficient would be deduced. This is a problem to be solved for the height regions near the tropopause and the turbopause. The VHF-radar can help to describe the life history, including sources, propagation characteristics and decay of gravity waves and turbulence in the middle atmosphere.
