Abstract
Semimagnetic chalcogeneide Pb1-xMnxS nanocrystals were grown in borosilicate glass host and their optical, structural and magnetic properties were investigated. Transmission electron microscopy images confirms the growth of the Pb1-xMnxS nanocrystals. Uv–Vis-Nir spectroscopy measurements of these nanocrystals revealed band-gap shifting from 0.94 eV (1307 nm) to 1.12 eV (1111 nm), which was attributed to the incorporation content (x) of Mn2+ ions in the typical PbS rock salt crystal structure. EPR data shows the six hyperfine lines assigned to the Mn2+ ions incorporated into the host crystal structure of PbS nanocrystals. The Photoluminescence obtained at 20k was analyzed and shows an anomalous increase in emission efficiency considering carrier transfer for Pb1-xMnxS nanocrystals with different sizes.
