Abstract
The experience described is developed in the subject 'Calculation in One Variable' at the Professional School of Systems Engineering. It integrates Problem Based Learning (PBL) with cooperative learning techniques and the use of ICT into a didactic proposal for teaching-learning the concept of a function derivative. For this, a problem was raised, close to the students' experiences, problem that contributes to the construction of the concept of derivative as a reason for change. Unlike the traditional way of teaching the derivative, the experience is based on the analysis of the ratio of change to introduce the notion of derivative. There were 57 students enrolled, of whom 42 completed the PBL activity. The results show that in addition to achieving the educational objectives posed, 70% of students are satisfied with the proposed methodology; they declare that it is quite or very satisfactory and more than 90% declare that the motivation increased.
