Abstract
Duarte-García and colleagues conducted an Epidemiologic study of Antiphospholipid Syndrome (APS) in Olmsted County, MN, focusing on its annual incidence, prevalence and mortality. They estimated a prevalence of 50 per 100.000 inhabitants and an overall annual incidence of 2 per 100,000 population. Certainly, as the authors mentioned, there is a lack of studies evaluating the "real" prevalence of APS in a community setting. Durcan and Petri, for example, reported an annual incidence of APS of about 5 per 100,000 individuals and a prevalence between 40-50 cases per 100,000 individuals.
