Material and methods: An observational, descriptive and prospective study was performed using data from patients diagnosed with functional constipation, defi ned by the Rome III criteria, in the Lambayeque Regional Hospital and a private clinic from January to March 2016. We use a data collection. The statistical analysis was descriptive. Results: 86[%] of patients had inadequate intake of water and had no defi nite schedule defecation. 100[%] of patients had treatment response, 76[%] within two weeks. Conclusions: Inadequate intake of water and the absence of a defi nite schedule for defecation were the most frequent risk factors in our environment. All patients had treatment response, most within two weeks.
