Abstract
The present paper presents the common problem about the deficient comprehension of reading in the young university population. For this purpose, we have focused on a sample consisting of first-level students belonging to a university located in Lima city. We have analyzed the relation between inference reading comprehension and the usage of metacognitive strategies in those students enrolled in the programs of education, nursing, systems engineering and accounting. Our study took into account variables such as gender and high school education. We measured the relevant variables by using the proposed strategies described in this paper.
