Abstract
In the process of transmission of digital-encoded video bitstreams over an ATM network, cells are inevitably exposed to delays and losses due to the dynamic resource allocation mechanisms used in these networks. In recent years, error-loss concealment schemes have been proposed to limit the impact of such impairments over the video quality. The results obtained by these algorithms very much depend on the characteristics of the video sequences being transmitted. In this paper we propose a dynamic algorithm allowing to select the most suitable error-loss concealment scheme by taking into account the characteristics of the video sequence. Our results show the feasibility of developing algorithms able to dynamically select the best error-loss concealment schemes as well as the improvements on the image quality in the presence of losses.
