Abstract
In this paper a set of benchmark examples including structural system changes and time effects due to concrete creep are developed. A relevant literature review and compilation of works from 1974 to 2020 showing the historical progress of computer-aided algorithms is also presented. In this manner, new researchers can get involved quickly with existing methodologies and current research about this topic. Resorting to classical linear viscoelasticity theory the studied examples are solved both analytically using existing solutions from literature based on non-ageing materials, and numerically by means of the finite element (FE) method. For the latter, an institutional FE program is enhanced by including the activation/deactivation method for construction staging. Then, a complete picture of the numerical algorithm is presented. The robustness of the implemented algorithm is demonstrated by showing the good agreement between numerical and analytical responses for all studied cases. As expected, meaningful redistributions along time due to creep effects and structural system changes is reported.
