Abstract
Under the frame of FP7 European Project PARTICOAT, a new approach to manufacture a thermal barrier system is studied. Aluminium particles are mixed with an organic binder, and then deposited on stainless steel plates. Different thermal treatments, under different atmospheres, promote a coating formed by hollow oxidized particles (thermal barrier) with an aluminium-rich diffusion zone. The mechanisms beneath the formation of such coatings are analyzed.
