Abstract
The Smartphone is used for multiple purposes, both professional and personal ones. Its versatility, the normalization and the generalization of its use can generate dysfunctional or even addictive behavior. An emerging problem necessitates the development and review of instruments to evaluate the person-Smartphone interactions. Aim. To analyze the evidence of content validity, internal structure and reliability of the Smartphone Addiction Scale (SAS). Method. Instrumental study with 328 Peruvian university students with ages between 17 and 41 years old (79.6% women; M = 28.48 SD = 4.23). The Smartphone Dependence and Addiction Scale (SAS) was applied. Results. Confirmatory factor analysis showed better fit indices (CFI =.930; RMSEA =.072, CI90%.065-.079; WRMR = 1.220) for the unidimensional model with 23 items of the SAS, and good construct reliability (ω =. 934). Conclusion. SAS has adequate psychometric properties for the measurement of smartphone addiction in Peruvian university students, indicating a 23-item unidimensional instrument.
