Peru is one of the twleve megadiverse countries in the World. Its enormous medicinal herbal heritage has been enriched by modern phytochemical research which has further identified new herbal drugs. However, the scientific knowledge about all the Peruvian medicinal plants is still incomplete . Is in this context where the Peruvian government has built up a legal framwork to provide its citizens with safe herbal medicines as well as to regulate every medical and scientific activity on phytomedicines. Currently 11 Acts, 4 Supreme Acts and two Ministerial Resolutions among other laws try to accomplish these goals. © 2009 Boletín Latinoamericano y del Caribe de Plantas Medicinales y Aromáticas.
