Members of the Gleicheniaceae stand out among scandent plants, typical of paramo environments and open slopes of the region of the Humid Montane Forest. This family is recognized in Peru with three genera and more than 20 species (Tryon & Stolze, 1993; Smith et al., 2005). Only one species is an endemic, and is not found in any protected area.
