Abstract
Objective: Neurocysticercosis (NCC) is the most common parasitic disease of the central nervous system. No stablished treatment exists for the management of subarachnoid NCC. We aim to present a minimally invasive procedure with basis on the anterior Sylvian point (ASP) for the management of Sylvian cistern NCC. Materials and methods: Three patients with histologically confirmed Sylvian cistern NCC followed a targeted burr hole surgery with reference on the ASP. We prepared a detailed description of the surgical procedure of the cases. Results: The three patients had favourable postoperative clinical and radiological outcome without postoperative complications. No approach related complications were observed as well. Postoperative cysticidal treatment was required for each patient. Conclusions: The targeted burr hole surgery with reference on the ASP is a minimally invasive procedure for the surgical management of Sylvian cistern NCC. Further research is required to determine the safety and effectiveness of this approach.
