Abstract
This article presents the first information available on gastric morphology and, based on detailed study of stomach contents, of food habits of the yellowish rice rat (Oryzomys xantheolus), a rodent species that fills an important component of small mammal communities in western Peru and Ecuador. The species is clearly a herbivorous browser, with a gastric morphology resembling that of other oryzomine rodents.
