Abstract
The search for compounds with antifungal activity is of great importance, due to the difficulty that occurs when combating diseases caused by pathogenic microorganisms. The objective of the study was to determine the susceptibility of the strains of Candida albicans against the ethanolic extract of the Punica granatum peel and the Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) of the Punica granatum peel extract on strains of Candida albicans. We worked with 4 strains of Candida albicans (C1, C2, C3, C4) and 5 different concentrations of the ethanolic extract of the Punica granatum peel (50 mg/ mL, 100 mg/ mL, 150 mg/ mL, 200 mg/ mL, 250 mg/ mL), considering three repetitions for each strain. As a result, it was obtained that all strains of Candida albicans under study were susceptible to the ethanolic extract of the Punica granatum peel. To determine the MIC, the lowest concentration (50 mg/ mL) that caused susceptibility of all the strains under study was used; the values obtained were for C1 and C3 of Candida albicans, MIC of 1.56 mg/ mL; for the C4 of Candida albicans CMI of 3.125 mg/ mL and for C2, CMI was 6.25 mg/ mL.
