Abstract
The Agavaceae have an adequate content of fructans that promote its addition in diets for monogastric, in order to replace the use of antibiotics as growth promoters. Growth performance and the carcass yield of rabbits growingfattening fed with additions of 0.5; 1.0 and 1.5% of Agave tequilana meal (ATM) was evaluated, 64 animals of the race New Zelanda x California with 35 days of old during 60 days were located according to completely randomized design with eight replications. Supplementation of 1.5% of ATM increased the body weight and the slaughter , average daily gain and feed intake, while that feed conversion and mortality were not significantly different (P>0.05) between treatments. The best tenors of carcass corresponded to ATM 1.5% of meal (P<0.05). However, back decreases (P<0.05) to the diet to 1.0% compared to the control group. Also, did not find significant changes in pH and sensory quality of the loin and in the ranges of colors with red and yellow hues, except luminosity that increased with 0.5% (P <0.05). It was concluded that the use of 1.5% the supplement in the diets of rabbits, improved productive indicators, as well as the carcass without affecting its sensory quality.
