Abstract
In this paper describes the design, development and construction of a low power consumption sensor node for remote monitoring of the quality environment. The system was developed in the INICTEL-UNI, as part of the project "Telemetry system for monitoring natural resources and the environment in Peru". The sensor node is implemented with themethodology of development iterative and incremental considering building 3 electronic boards. Each electronic board works as an independent module having a specific function. The sensor node is capable of transmitting data through the GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) or ZigBee. Also, the acquistion and sending of readings obtained by the sensor node is done with a low power microcontroller which has a control system for saving energy allowing greater operating autonomy. The data is sent to a Web server on the Internet using a ZigBee Gateway-GPRS or by a GPRS module.
