Abstract
Introduction: Research from undergraduate favors a continuing medical education, both graduate and professional. Counsellors should be those that guide students towards the path of research, which implies a commitment binomial student-advisor. Objective: Describe the characteristics of advisors research papers presented at national scientific conferences of medical students of Peru in 2013 and 2014. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study. A self administered to the authors, in person or virtual, obtaining one for each adviser was applied. The filling was informed and anonymously consent was requested. Descriptive statistics were applied frequency and percentages being used. Chi square test was used in inferential statistics. Results: 128 surveys were obtained. 90.6 % of the advisers were doctors, 64.6 % of the faculty of teachers surveyed, 82 % know that your advisor investigates and 73.4 % know it publishes. The biggest reason for choosing it was to provide support for faculty or scientific society (43.75 %), only 4.69 % chose him to be an authority. The greater involvement of consultants is given in the critical revision of the manuscript (71.88 %). 40.63 % met the criteria for authorship. As partners to belong to the best work factors found electing advisor for being basic science and participation in the final approval of the manuscript. Conclusion: Most advisors were characterized as doctors, teachers, researchers and possess spirit of support. These data will help to know the reasons why students choose an advisor, involving them in the work and the factors that are associated with being among the best research.
