Abstract
Background: The increased incidence of tuberculosis leads to the infection with the bacillus to people working at health centers, because of the contact of the patient's care. Nosocomial TBC transmission is mainly produced by the lack or incomplete implementation of control measures and the lack of education to personnel in risks' identification. It is necessary to identify, treat and follow the sanitary personnel with latent infection by Mycobacterium tuberculosis into the control program of biological risks of any health center. Objective: To identify the sanitary personnel of the Toquepala's Hospital with latent infection by Mycobacterium tuberculosis Material and methods: We performed a surveillance of latent infection by TBC in Toquepala's Hospital SPCC, located in Tacna, Peru, in February, 2003. We used Monotest. Results: Monotest was positive in 18 (30%) workers from which 11 (18.33%) were males. Occupation of workers with positive test was as follows: 1 physician, 8 infirmary workers, 2 technicians, 1 administrative personnel, 1 cleaning personnel, 2 chauffeurs, 2 kitchen workers and 1 dentist. Conclusion: It is necessary to perform a program of surveillance to sanitarily personnel exposed to patients with pulmonary or laryngeal tuberculosis in private health centers.
