Abstract
Studying at the university is one of the objectives in a life plan that most often forms part of women; specialties such as education or nursing are the ones they choose most. The presence of women in the areas of Basic Sciences and Engineering has a low percentage. The University of Sciences and Humanities offers the programs of Systems Engineering and Computer Science and Electronic Engineering with a major in Telecommunications, careers that mostly men choose and in a smaller percentage women. The present study presents the statistics of the presence of women in these engineering programs, motivations for choosing the program, permanence index, reasons for dropping out, proposals for improvement, monitoring of graduates, and suggestions for optimizing work with students women in the engineering area.
