This paper presents the biomass gasification as a suitable technology for rural electrification plants in developing countries. The main problems of the gasification plants and the perspectives of this technology were analyzed. It concludes that currently the gasification is a viable alternative for electricity generation in rural conditions although more research is needed to evaluate the long-term sustainability and to adjust new developments to these conditions.
