Abstract
In the last years, the development of novel video coding technologies has spurred the interest in developing digital video communications over packet switched networks. The definition of evaluation mechanisms to assess the quality of video will play a major role in the overall design of packet video systems. In this paper, we undertake a study of current trends on the definition of video quality metrics. We have been particularly interested in metrics allowing to assess the quality from the end user point of view.
