Abstract
The objective of this study was to determine the level of development of critical thinking skills in undergraduate students. 45 students of the third semester of the Foreign Languages specialty of the Pedro Ruiz Gallo National University of Lambayeque, Peru, participated in the year 2020-2021 A Likert-type questionnaire was designed, based on the theoretical review of the concept of critical thinking, which allowed organizing the matrix of critical thinking skills, according to four dimensions: analyze information, infer implications, propose alternative solutions and argue a position. With this instrument it was possible for the students to report their level of development in terms of critical thinking skills, once the Educational Research Workshop I courses had been taken and passed. The results showed that these skills were present between low and average levels. At the low level, the skills of the dimensions were identified: analyze the information and coherence between alternatives and the problem; At the average level, the skills of the dimensions were indicated: inferring implications and arguing a position. Once again, the responsibility of university institutions for the development of critical thinking is clear.
