Abstract
The growth of cities is related to the growth of economic activities and the increase in automotive units; toil replacement is necessary for vehicles with technical needs, in consequence, there are large amounts of residual oil that are released into the soil and water, generating pollution. In the present study, we worked with automotive workshops with dirt floors and cement floors, taking control samples without contamination and samples of contaminated soils. The presence of heavy metals (Pb, Zn and Cu) were found with high values, that exceed the ECAs of environmental quality, with “highly significant” differences with the control soil values, and the average result for 168.25 mg/kg of Pb (ECA = 70 mg/kg), 251.25 mg/kg of Zn (ECA = 200 mg/kg), and 80.75 mg/kg of Cu (ECA = 91 mg/kg), affecting the quality of the soil directly, in the auto mechanic workshops in José Pardo Avenue, Chimbote. It is not possible to have a generalization of the contaminated soil when the pH of the soil types is taken into account, having values close to 8 in the study area, where the climate is dry and the terrain is sandy. The TOC, CE, HTP, Pb, Zn, and Cu values were obtained and exceed national and international standards, establishing that the soils are phytotoxic.
