All dermatologists worldwide should have at least passing familiarity with various tropical maladies that generate cutaneous manifestions. In addition to the standard infectious ailments associated with tropical environs, the authors have described herein five "emerging" illnesses that are gaining increasing attention for their capacity to cause human disease in those immigrating from, or traveling to, the tropical and subtropical world. © 2007 Elsevier Inc.
